Paul is headed to Cyprus!

Hi! I’m Paul Kullmann, a rising sophomore at the Swanson School of Engineering. Professionally, I’ve always been interested in the intersection of technology and medicine, so my major, bioengineering is a natural fit. In the future, I want to work in neural engineering, where every day I will get to create devices that let people live, longer, healthier, and happier lives. I’m involved in the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) here at Pitt, and I plan to further my involvement with other clubs next year, such as Engineers Without Borders (EWB).

Personally, I love all things related to traveling and experiencing new cultures. My parents are European, so I’m no stranger to Europe, but I also love branching out and trying new cultures at home, whether that means visiting the Asian supermarket or going to an Ethiopian restaurant. And of course, I love visiting new places to relax and enjoy a little slice of paradise. Living here in the city has been hectic, so I am ready to shift my study to the beautiful beaches and scenic countryside of Cyprus!

Study Abroad Program – Plus3: Cyprus

Cyprus is the crossroads of the Mediterranean, and that gives it so much to learn about, even as a biomedical engineer. I want to be a leader in my field, and that means broadening my knowledge outside of pure engineering. In Cyprus, I will learn about supply chain management and shipping, both important aspects of a business’s strategic plan. Along with IT, manufacturing, and blockchain, ship and supply chain management are cornerstones of the Cypriot economy. Being knowledgeable in these areas will allow me to step up and lead, using my insights to coordinate the supply chain wherever I work, whether that be as part of a company, or as an entrepreneur.

Even before our departure, we’ve been hard at work learning about principles of supply chain management. It’s been interesting to use math outside of engineering as a tool for business, such as with the Economic Order Quantity (EOQ). I’m confident that Plus3: Cyprus will give me the tools I need for a great career as an engineer and a leader in the medical device industry, and I’m thankful to the David C. Frederick Honors College for supporting me on my journey. See you from Cyprus!
