About Me
Hi everyone! My name is Alana Carnicelli and I am a Junior on the Pre-Physician Assistant track majoring in Rehabilitation Science with a minor in Chemistry and a certificate in Conceptual Foundations of Medicine. At Pitt, I am involved in a couple student organizations, which have offered me so many great opportunities for making connections, volunteering and getting ready for grad school during my time here! I am in a service fraternity called Epsilon Sigma Alpha, and I am a member of the Pre-Physician Assistant Student Association. I am also currently the Volunteer Coordinator of the Rehabilitation Science Student Association and I serve as an Organic Chemistry Undergraduate Teaching Assistant. Outside of school I work as a Medical Assistant at UPMC, and I love to travel! I am so excited for this summer as I will be traveling to Austria and Slovenia on the Panther Program, Comparative Healthcare in Graz!
Comparative Healthcare in Graz
Comparative Healthcare in Graz is a Panther Program designed for pre-health students. I chose this program since we will not only explore the Austrian culture and beauty, but we will also have an immersive experience into their healthcare system. We will stay in Graz, which is a center of innovative healthcare delivery and research. Here, we will visit their hospitals and care homes, as well as meet with and learn from professionals. This program gives us the opportunity to learn about a completely different healthcare system from what we are used to in America, which I am especially excited about. I hope to learn the pros and cons to different healthcare delivery systems, which will help me to be a more informed provider in my future career.
The program also includes excursions and tours all around Austria that will expose us to the history and culture. We will also stay a week in Maribor, Slovenia to study their healthcare and of course explore their beautiful country. Between the opportunities for professional experience and exposures to different cultures, I cannot wait to go on this program!
