Hello! My name is Cora Anderson and I am studying abroad in Paris, France this semester. I am a Sophomore at Pitt studying Political Science and Public Policy with a certificate in Public and Professional Writing. Here in Paris I am taking courses through the program IES where the majority of my classes are concentrated on French and U.S. Political Science.
I am living in the vibrant 9th arrondissement which is perfectly located near the center of Paris. I live close to The Louvre and Opera Garnier, both filled with art and history. My classes are located in the 13th arrondissement, about a 25 metro ride away! It just so happens that I am the only Pitt student in my program, so it has been so exciting meeting students from schools all around the United States.
I chose Paris because I had a back ground in French and I find their concentration of politics in the city exciting. It is a city and country filled with rich history and amazing food! I particularly love their Green City initiatives and studying how elections work with so many different parties running. This program also offers many courses specializing in Comparative Politics taught by professionals in the field and graduates from one of the top European universities to study politics, Science Po.
As someone who has never left the country before this study abroad experience, I am taking advantage of every opportunity that comes my way! My student visa allows for free entrance into the most famous museums and landmarks in Paris, including the Palace of Versailles. I hope to gain cultural insight as to how the French live their lives and also develop better French language skills. Starting from complete scratch in the foreign city, knowing absolutely no one, will deepen my sense of self and allow me to grow as an individual. I am looking forward to documenting my experiences and sharing how this program enriches my semester!
