Oh the Places You’ll Go

As my program came to a close, I can confidently say that I have formed deep connections with my peers in both the business and engineering school. Even though the days were long and filled with company visits and lectures from early in the morning to the evening, I learned the importance of maximizing my time. After each long day, we would go for dinner all together and then enjoy the pool or the beach. I want to carry this into my academic and professional career to have the balance and harmony. It is important for me not to get burnt out and enjoy the people I am with and the place as well.

I also learned that history is important to know and understand. When I first traveled to Cyprus, I was confused if they were apart of Greece or not. Come to find out that they are their own independent country but they speak a dialect of Greek. There are many abandoned buildings all around the island of Cyprus and that is due to the Turkish invasion in 1973. The Turkish Cypriots were forced to leave their homes as well as the Greek Cypriots. The top 1/3 of the country is not officially recognized but is considered apart of Turkey. The history that happened not that along ago, is seen rippled throughout the island and has truly affects the lives of so many. Something that I will take with me in my academic career is to take the time to understand my co-workers and the environment that I am in. It is important for me to do this because I want to travel for work often and I need to be aware of the significance of each place.
