As this summer with the Health Science Research Fellowship comes to an end, I’ve realized it’s afforded me incredible growth opportunities made possible by this transformative experience. From the moment I embarked on this fellowship and independent research, I knew I was stepping into a world of discovery and the chance to make a meaningful impact in the field of health science. Now, with the conclusion of this fellowship and new perspectives gained, there are a few things I’ve reflected upon.

The fellowship allowed me to delve deep into the vast realm of cancer biology research, where every day brought new insights and challenges. My passion for understanding human health and the underlying mechanisms of cancer only intensified as I collaborated with experts in the field, explored cutting-edge methodologies, and dissected scientific literature. The exposure to diverse perspectives broadened my horizons and motivated me to approach research with an open mind.

Like any research endeavor, I faced obstacles and setbacks during my fellowship. There were moments when experiments didn’t yield expected results, and it truly felt like I hit a wall. However, these opportunities taught me the value of resilience and perseverance.

One of the most inspiring aspects of this fellowship was the collaborative spirit that permeated every aspect of the experience. Meeting weekly with fellow undergraduate researchers gave us an opportunity to share ideas and learn from each other as we navigate our future careers.

My Health Science Research Fellowship has been a journey of personal and intellectual growth, an expedition that has shaped my perspective on health science and my role in it. From the challenges I overcame to the friendships I formed, every aspect of this experience has left an indelible mark on my life. As I move forward, I carry with me the passion, knowledge, and determination acquired during this fellowship, eager to continue my pursuit of excellence in health science research. In fact, the research I conducted as part of my fellowship is far from over. Even though the fellowship itself is coming to an end, I plan to continue the research I started and turn it into a Bachelors of Philosophy thesis project that I will continue to work on over the next few years. As this chapter comes to an end, I embrace the future with optimism, knowing that the spirit of discovery instilled in me during this fellowship will continue to drive my quest for a healthier and brighter tomorrow.
