Welcome back to my journey in London as an intern at King’s College Hospital (KCH) in the Emergency Department and Major Trauma Unit! During my first few weeks here in London, I have made some massive strides socially, professionally, and educationally. Immediately upon meeting my roommates, we got along. I had never shared an actual room with someone before this, and yet it’s been one of the most fun experiences in college! This past weekend, we knocked a good chunk of the touristy items off of our to-do list. We explored the British and Natural History Museums.

Before hitting up the nearest pub for food and drinks. We then headed south to Forest Hills, where my sister and her boyfriend were hosting an integrated music and food event. I had the chance to introduce my roommates to the people I spent half of the previous month with.
Then, the rest of the night was spent celebrating my roommate’s birthday, and that concluded the fun-filled weekend!
Monday approached quickly with its long list of tasks attached. Nick, my colleague, and I were finally embarking on our main project regarding value-based patient care. Furthermore, we had several meetings with various staff at KCH to collaborate on new projects while we were here. Throughout the week, we have been speaking to numerous patients about their experiences in the trauma ward, as well as establishing their core values and goals to follow up on in the near future. The opportunity to have these conversations with people has allowed us to meet a wide range of people in unique situations and collect data that helps KCH work towards improved patient experiences. I am very lucky to be a part of it! Additionally, we have the privilege of shadowing an evening shift in the resus[citation] department, furthering our clinical insight.
During the week, my friends and I try not to let our 9-5s be the only event. We have been taking walks around Farringdon, going to pubs for a few hours, and watching shows and movies together.
This week, we walked down a charming street called Exmouth Market, a great spot for people watching, and met a stray cat that was ridiculously hard to say goodbye to.

Looking ahead, my friends and I are continuing to work hard at KCH to improve patient experiences and plan to go out for dinner, have a night out on the town, and expand our understanding of London even more this weekend!
