Hello! I’m Jaira Pierre-Louis, an incoming junior studying Poltical Science. Around campus, I’m involved with Chi Omega, work as a pathfinder, and Women in Law. I am incredibly excited for the opportunity to utilize my summer studying abroad. In fact, excited is an understatement. While a part of me is intimidated to be thrown in the deep end of being completely alone in a new country, the other is completely certain that this is exactly what I need at this point in my life and college career.

This year, I am studying abroad with the Frederick Honors Pre-Law Internship program. This program was unique as each student is having their own unique experience. An internship seemed like a great opportunity to get some additional experience on my resume over the summer, but it will also help further me with Honors OCC points, as well as credits. I was initially drawn to London because it seemed like the perfect place for me to be comfortably uncomfortable. I was drawn to the city’s diversity, historical features, and iconic landmarks. While I will be able to experience something entirely new, I think I will be able to transition into the workplace environment much easier in an English-speaking country. Even though I will likely stick out a bit with my American accent.
Although I have been lucky enough to experience playing tourist around the world with my family, I think this will be unique experience. In this case, I am joining their workforce, using regular public transportation for an extended period of time, and just familiarizing myself with the overall way of life there. While intimidating, I anticipate it will be incredibly fulfilling for me.
I am excited to continue to inform you of my adventures in London in the next two months! Cheers!
