Michelle’s Introduction to Berlin

I chose this experience to learn more about the process of bioscience breakthroughs as well as what bioscience entails historically and in the present world. I also chose this experience because I have never been to Berlin or Germany and Germany is incredibly advanced in the field of bioscience so I thought it would be interesting to learn their take on bioscience and breakthroughs. My initial expectation and assumptions were that Berlin would be very city like with many buildings and little greenery which I was totally wrong about as there is a lot of gorgeous greenery all around Berlin. Regarding bioscience I hold the expectation that it will be very similar to how bioscience is in the US though they may have different ways of thinking of certain important science topics in history. I have a few questions about just generally how the science culture is in Germany and how regarded scientists are in Germany. I additionally wonder what Germany considers the main breakthroughs in scientific history. Lastly, I wonder what German culture and customs are. I hope to gain a greater understanding of German culture from this trip and use it as a sort of peak into other European cultures. I also hope to learn how science/ scientists are seen in Germany and what they deem important in history to give me a greater concept on what it means to be a scientist. Lastly, I hope that these interactions can help me learn if I want to continue becoming a scientist in America or if I should consider becoming a scientist in other countries and overall if I want to even become a scientist in my professional future.
