Settling into Northern Ireland has been very enjoyable! Being here for a month now, I have gotten into a rhythm for my three modules (courses) and am developing a social life with the new friends I have made thus far. Exploring Belfast and the pub culture here has been enjoyable, as well as a good way to meet locals. Cathedral Court is a very nice and scenic area, which is where the picture was taken below.

Beyond the module curriculum, I have also had to adjust to the teaching methods and lecture format. In most of my courses, a different lecturer teaches each week, which has been a unique experience. For my psychology modules in particular, the department often brings in guest lecturers who specialize in the specific topic being covered that week. I like this approach because it allows us to learn directly from experts who have a deeper understanding of the subject matter.

Taking three modules here rather than five at Pitt allows me to explore more of Belfast and Helen’s Bay, which has become a staple for me a couple of times a month when the weather cooperates.
Fast-forwarding a few weeks, Queen’s University had a reading week, which allowed me to take my first trip. During the break, I traveled to London, then to Austria, continued on to Budapest, and finally ended the trip in Milan, where I was able to experience the atmosphere of the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Visiting London for the first time was an incredible experience. While I was there, I had the opportunity to attend the West End premiere of Dracula starring Cynthia Erivo, which was a highlight of the trip. I also spent time exploring some of London’s iconic tourist attractions, making the visit both exciting and memorable.

Continuing on to Austria, I went to Salzburg and Vienna.
I really enjoyed Salzburg’s charm, especially while exploring several locations featured in The Sound of Music. After spending a day there, my friends and I took the train to Vienna. I had visited Vienna once before in 2024, but returning this time was just as enjoyable, and I had a great time experiencing the city again.

After a combined three days in Austria, we flew to Budapest.
Budapest was a nice city, and the different foods we tried were amazing! We had the chance to try a chimney cake as well as some goulash soup.
After a short visit to Hungary, we flew to Milan for the 2026 Winter Games! While in Italy, we went to Venice, Lake Como, and Bergamo.

After an eventful week across five different countries, I made it back to Belfast. I am very grateful for the opportunity to travel and am excited to see what else comes during this experience abroad!
