A New Journey in London

on

Hi! My name is Riley and I am a third-year undergraduate student at the University of Pittsburgh College of Business Administration and the Frederick Honors College. I am majoring in Business Analytics and Business Information Systems, and pursuing a minor in Political Science. Outside of the classroom, you can catch me running, crocheting, or trying new foods.

There are so many reasons I decided to study abroad on the GBI: London program this semester. Beyond meeting degree requirements, I wanted to gain more confidence within myself. As a Junior, I have grown very comfortable on campus at Pitt. I live with four great roommates, am involved in several extracurriculars, and know many people in my majors. I saw this program as an opportunity to meet new people and push myself out of my comfort zone.,

I aim to improve myself professionally as well. I am attending Richmond American University, which has a large international population. My peers are from several countries, such as Italy and Ukraine. Enhancing my intercultural communication skills and adaptability is essential for a future workplace.

Prior to January, I had never left the United States. Going to a new country has been an incredible experience, allowing me to grow comfortable traveling and exploring a new city. I am starting to grow confident with navigating the city using public transportation and enjoyed trying new restaurants. I have visited other cities within the United Kingdom, like Bath and Oxford. I am looking forward to growing more comfortable with spending time by myself.

However, it has definitely taken time to get used to. I have missed my family and friends at home. I have found comfort in making the most of my new location: exploring different parts of London such as Notting Hill, going to workout classes, and meeting new people on campus. I have found that cooking the same meals I typically make back in Pittsburgh has brought a lot of comfort.

I look forward to seeing the skills I develop over the next three months!
