Over the long weekend, I traveled to Vienna with fellow members of the Berlin Internship cohort, taking advantage of Pfingstmontag (Whit Monday), a national holiday that provided a day off from work. This trip offered an ideal opportunity to step back from daily responsibilities, explore a new city, and gain fresh perspectives.

The train journey from Berlin to Vienna was interesting. Traveling through southern Germany, the landscape featured meticulously maintained fields, rolling hills, and distant mountains—an inspiring display of order and natural beauty. Observing this scenery encouraged reflection on the value of balance, patience, and attentiveness, qualities I find increasingly relevant both personally and professionally.

Vienna itself is a city of exceptional architectural and cultural richness. Its historic buildings, adorned with intricate sculptures and carvings, are remarkably well-preserved, and the urban landscape communicates a sense of continuity and intentionality. Walking through the city revealed layers of design and history that reward careful observation. Beyond the exteriors, the interiors of cafes, museums, and cultural spaces offered distinct atmospheres, each reflective of Vienna’s artistic and historical heritage.

During the visit, I engaged with Austrian culture through historical sites and traditional cuisine, including schnitzel and strudel. The experience emphasized the value of slowing down to appreciate context and nuance, an approach I aim to apply to both professional and personal endeavors.

Returning to Berlin, I felt recharged and more focused in my internship. This experience reinforced the importance of adaptability and proactive learning.

This trip reinforced the connection between professional growth and cultural engagement. Just as exploring Vienna required careful observation and curiosity, approaching tasks in the workplace benefits from the same patience and attention to detail. Each experience abroad—whether navigating new environments or managing professional responsibilities—provides opportunities to cultivate adaptability, cultural awareness, and reflective decision-making, all of which are critical in a global professional context.
