It’s been such a great time here in the foothills of the Himalayas and I’m learning so much about how different and interesting the culture is here in Mussoorie. From architecture of the smaller villages and bazaars compared to the towering urban city of Pittsburgh back home, it is evident how remote the area is from the rest of India. However, despite the region’s remoteness, it provides a spectacular environment for its occupants to witness.

From the scenery of the white peaks to leopards and other wildlife, the environment may be very different to where I am from, but I couldn’t be more excited about having the chance to explore it more deeply.

With small, remote villages and towns being a bit of a culture shock to me, I’ve also gotten to see such a different and fascinating way of life that works with and utilizes the environment. While homes in the mountains are very small and rustic, it provides a sense of peacefulness and connection to the tight-knit community around the area.

When I’m back at school in Pittsburgh, I think it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Here, however, we’ve definitely all gotten to take a slower pace and just enjoy the scenery around us. I think it’s helped me to actually appreciate the natural world around me now that I’m constantly surrounded by such beautiful Himalayan views.
