You Won’t Know Unless You Ask

on

Throughout my 30 day stay at the K-Z ranch to explore and better understand the surrounding environment of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, I have grown to be more curious. During our drives to different locations I had always wondered why we saw certain geologic features or what bird we had just seen but I wasn’t confident enough to ask my professors or fellow classmates. While staying at the ranch, I wanted to learn more about what life was like for Kim, Dawna, Pat, and all the other members of the ranch family. But I was held back and worried about being too invasive or potentially insensitive. It wasn’t until later in the trip that I realized that I just had to push myself to be more curious and ask those questions that I wanted to know about. It was through these questions that I was able to learn more in depth and also form closer connections with those around me. Since coming back from this trip, I hope to continue to grow this confidence in curiosity both personally and academically, feeling more confident to engage with my professors and new classmates.
