I gained a whole new perspective on life and globalization as a part of my professional development experience in Spain. Bilbao transformed my view on work-life balance and how actual companies operate. Research, which is something I never would have considered being a part of, is now going to be a part of my 2026 academic year. Plus 3 gave me insight into a field that intrigued me so much that I changed my major. Dr. Borovetz also helped sway that decision for me. I learned how to network and the sheer importance of it. You do not need some elaborate elevator pitch to talk to someone. You just need genuine interest and need to ask questions. I fostered valuable relationships just by continuing to ask questions about the material and experiences that were being provided. I cannot wait to take advantage of these in the future for either a semester or internship abroad. It was also a realization of how similar research is across the globe. We got to see companies in Spain that were performing similar research as Pitt, and if only we could communicate across the globe more, a great amount more of research could be done. Reflecting on my trip, I have already applied my networking skills to further advance my professional life. In both my summer job and preparing for my career after university, I have connected with people who come from a different background from me and have taken a completely different career path. However, I still connected with them, and I know I can always reach out to them in the future. I have also been trying new foods, going new places, and overall have taken more risks since my trip in Spain. I believe that the most valuable lesson I have learned in Spain is to push myself out of my comfort zone. I will never grow as a person without pushing myself to new bounds, and taking more risks is the best way to accomplish that. Overall, Plus3 has not only enhanced my life but also completely improved it in ways I could not even imagine.
