Hi there! My name is Owen Baker, and I’m a sophomore at the University of Pittsburgh’s College of Business Administration, studying accounting and finance. This semester, I’m studying abroad at the Vienna University of Economics and Business, right in the heart of the city.

Over the next four months, I’m looking forward to immersing myself in different cultures and stepping outside my comfort zone. Since arriving a few weeks ago, I’ve already made friends from all over the world—this exchange program includes students from more than 50 countries!
So far, I’ve had the chance to visit Graz and Hallstatt, two incredible Austrian cities with breathtaking views and amazing food. Wienerschnitzel is starting to grow on me, and with Austria’s diverse food scene, there’s always something new to try. I’ve also toured the United Nations and explored some of the city’s famous opera houses and museums—there’s never a dull moment here.

Just wrapped up a two-week pre-semester German course, and while I wouldn’t call myself fluent, I am now an expert in the German word for “wrong.” Let’s just say language learning isn’t my strong suit, but I’m picking up enough to be polite and navigate daily life! This semester, I’m taking a break from accounting with four courses in humanities and history—definitely a change of pace, but a welcome one.
As classes officially begin, I’m reminded that I came here for more than just sightseeing. I’m excited to dive into my courses, each offering a fresh perspective on topics I wouldn’t typically study. It’s shaping up to be an unforgettable semester, and I can’t wait to see what’s next!

Great idea to start a blog. Good job!
