The Brackenridge Summer Research Fellowship has been an enlightening experience, deepening my understanding of scientific research and my field of psychology. It has also given me valuable insights into my future career and academic paths, even as it has left me pondering some uncertainties.
Deepened Understanding of Research
Over the summer, my focus on my thesis project broadened significantly. Engaging with various lectures and resources allowed me to gain a more comprehensive understanding of research methods and their applications. These experiences enabled me to see my work from new perspectives and appreciate the interconnectedness of different disciplines.
Interacting with peers from various fields was particularly valuable. Through these conversations, I learned innovative approaches and techniques that I incorporated into my research. My goal is to apply to graduate school in psychology, and I believe that choosing a lab or program that aligns with my research interests is crucial. The ability to dedicate myself to a research area for many years requires finding the right fit, both academically and personally. The independent research I conducted this summer has increased my understanding of my current research field and what life as a graduate student might entail.
Academically, I am eager to continue my research. I plan to design a follow-up study to replicate my initial findings and focus on a more targeted sample. This will help validate my conclusions and strengthen my research. Professionally, I am considering collaborations with researchers from different disciplines, inspired by the interdisciplinary exchanges I experienced this summer.
