Ganesh’s German Getaway

on

Guten Tag!

My name is Ganesh Selvakumar, and I am thrilled to share that I will soon embark on the Engineering the German Way Study Abroad Program. I’m a rising Senior Engineering Science Major at the University of Pittsburgh, specializing in the Mechanics track. My academic interests lie in the intersection of engineering, physics, and computer simulation/modeling.

Currently, I am actively involved in the Applied Computational Fluid Dynamics Lab at Pitt, where we are researching the simulation of Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generators (RTGs), which power NASA space probes and rovers. While I have been dedicated to learning the technical aspects of engineering, I recognize the importance of understanding the business side of engineering. The Engineering the German Way program, with its emphasis on the intersection of Business and Technology, offers me the perfect opportunity to delve into this aspect of engineering.

In addition to learning about business and technology in Germany, I will be taking classes on ergonomics and engineering standards. These will complement the mechanical design courses I have taken at Pitt and allow me to apply and build upon the knowledge I have gained on campus.

One of the highlights of the program will be company visits to renowned German engineering companies such as BMW and Siemens. As an avid car enthusiast, I am particularly excited about visiting the BMW Factory and Museum, where I will have the chance to see many new and vintage models up close.

In my free time, I enjoy cooking, trying new restaurants, hiking, and camping. I am looking forward to exploring Munich’s food and culture and discovering the various parks and trails the city has to offer. From the English Garden to the beautiful landscapes surrounding the city, I am eager to immerse myself in Munich’s natural beauty.

I would like to express my gratitude to the Pitt Honors College for awarding me the Martinson Elevate Award Scholarship, which has made this incredible journey to Munich possible.

Thank you for joining me on this adventure! Stay tuned for updates as I explore the intersection of engineering, business, and culture in Munich.

Auf Wiedersehen!

Ganesh Selvakumar
