Oliver is Headed to Germany!

on

Hello! My name is Oliver Rosen, and I am a rising Sophomore. For the next five weeks I will be exploring Munich, Germany with Pitt in Munich, but before I do that, here’s a little bit about me:

I am from Chicago, IL. At Pitt, I am pursuing a double major in Biochemistry and English Writing – Fiction Track. I am also a German Minor, a Chemistry Minor, and a Gender Sexuality and Women’s Studies Certificate! Additionally, I am working towards a Global Distinction. I am also learning German.

I LOVE learning about different cultures, especially food and music. As a huge foodie, the chance to experience authentic German cuisine is very exciting – although we’ll see if any schnitzel can beat my Grandma’s! I have also heard that there is a place in Munich for ballroom dancing. I love dancing, and am actually a member of Ballroom Club at Pitt, so I cannot wait to check this out!

I am also very excited to make new friends, both the other Pitt in Munich participants and the people I will meet abroad! I hope to be able to make some German friends and meet lots of local students. I also hope to improve my language skills, especially my speed.

I am so excited to go on Pitt in Munich! In Munich I will be taking two classes, a language class and a culture class. This, combined with the many cultural excursions, will allow me to experience the city from a variety of different angles. I have never been to Germany, but I have family ties to the country, so I am really eager to explore the culture and history, especially through a Jewish lens. I am on a mission to explore my roots, to immerse myself in a new country, and to improve my German language skills!

I cannot wait to tell you all about it!

– Oliver
