Coming to London from a place with no extensive transportation system was definitely challenging to get accustomed to. I’d walk around with my google maps open most of the time just to make sure I turned on the correct street (I may still do this sometimes). Downloading the citymapper app was genuinely a lifesaver as the app gives you very straightforward directions of how to get from point A to point B. Navigating the tube, buses, and rush hour was something brand new for me, but I grew to really appreciate the accessibility of it. Another obstacle I faced initially beginning my classes and internship was learning how to balance working and completing my assignments on time while also exploring the city. This was definitely tricky because I needed to accomplish my twenty hours of working per week and go to class, so finding time to explore London was harder than I had thought. However, I established a routine from the start which really helped me see the things I wanted to see. Something different in navigating a routine in London was getting adjusted to having new roommates and their styles of living as well as also sharing a room with one other person. I had to be aware and responsible with my space so that both people in the room feel comfortable. A big difference in my routine is allotting plenty of time for the daily commute, whether it be to class or to work as the tube system is unpredictable and there can often be delays. One of my favorite experiences whilst being in London is its proximity to other countries. I have had the opportunity to travel on some weekends to Budapest and Edinburgh, places that are not as accessible and way more expensive if I was traveling there from home. My favorite experience in London though has been exploring Notting Hill with my roommate as I am an avid fan of the movie so it was so interesting to see the infamous book store as well as explore all the colorful streets and Portobello Market. London is such a vast city with always something to do, that I never find myself lacking in ideas of how to spend the day. There is always a new neighborhood or restaurant to go and explore. I love the way one is always busy doing one thing or the other.
