I’m Shanker, a participant in the SHURE-Grid program this summer. Unlike the Brackenridge scholars, my cohort is the same one that I am currently working with on my project. This summer, I hope that we can continue working as a group and using our individual strengths to make a better final project. As I have already done, I will continue learning from the others in my group since we all have a lot to learn.
Even though my cohort is working on the same project and have similar majors and future goals, I see many benefits in working across disciplines. I myself am doing a research project in genetics at the moment. Looking at the people I work with in my lab and the SHURE-Grid, a more Computer Science-focused group, I see two groups with very different views and approaches, both of which are important when completing a large project. People who study different things can always provide a different insight which is always helpful.
