The end of March is approaching, and I only have a little over a month until the end of my program. There were times throughout the last couple of months I felt ready to go home, but now I wish I could stay here for the whole summer! The weather is getting so much nicer and all I want to do is explore more of Marseille and take Ryanair flights around Europe. I have a couple of exams the first week of May, but my last class is on April 13th. I should have plenty of free time, so I plan on taking advantage of it and traveling. Until then, I have to put my head down and get through the last few weeks of classes. I want to take advantage of my last few class sessions in France and learn as much as I can. So far taking classes in a foreign country has been an incredible learning experience and I have developed several transferable skills both hard and soft.
If I were to move to Marseille full-time, I would want to live a few miles south of the city center. Halfway between the Calanques national park and the 6th arrondissement where I live now. This would be the perfect location because it would still be close to the city center, but it would be much quieter. Where I live now has been perfect for the semester because it is in the heart of the city where everything is, but I couldn’t imagine living there for more than a year. It’s a little too noisy for me, and sometimes I miss the sounds of nature rather than jackhammers at 7 am. Since I love planes, I would want to work for Airbus, preferably somewhere in the marketing department. Airbus has a massive presence in the south of France, and I think it would be amazing to learn more about the aviation industry. I would spend my days exploring more of the city and Marseille’s culture. In particular, I want to try more of the food. There is a lot of African influence in Marseille, and there are many Amazing African restaurants I haven’t been able to try yet. I would spend most of my weekends in the summer hiking, swimming, and cliff jumping in the Calanques, and every so often I would take trips to other countries in Europe.
