Changing Expectations Since Coming to London

I was expecting classes to be relatively the same to the ones at back home, but it’s really different. One of the most obvious differences is the location of where my classes take place in London. The CAPA center is located in a bustling area in the heart of London. And the center itself just appears as a townhouse from the outside. It definitely does not give off the feel of a college campus. Whereas at Pitt, it is a very obvious college campus and you are just surrounded by other students passing you by. I expected to interact with way more locals than I actually did. I thought I would be meeting and befriending many London locals, but this has been really hard to do because you kind of are stuck in the CAPA bubble if you don’t go out of your way to make an effort to branch out. So I did not have to make a major adjustment to my classes because it was what I have been used to. Although the classes are much longer than what I am used to since they are all 3 hours long.

Also, in terms of my internship, I did not expect any of the tasks that I was given. This mainly stemmed from me not being a marketing major and being put into the marketing team at my internship. It took a while to adjust to a different style of thinking and figuring out how projects and tasks tended to operate. I have been gaining experience in working in Hubspot, which is the main platform that CREOATE uses to create marketing material and the website layout. It took a while to get the hang of the platform, but I think I have got the hang of it now. I didn’t expect to be given so many significant tasks that actually went public. It was amazing to see the results of my work actually be in front of people. I could monitor the CRM, CTR, and OR which was fascinating and so insightful. This internship may not have been exactly what I was expecting, but I am enjoying it nonetheless and learning a lot from it.
