Living full-time in the United Kingdom and London has been something that I have genuinely thought about before and during my time studying abroad. There are so many opportunities in London and it is a beautiful city. There are so many things to do- many that I have not had the chance to do even since being here- and London is so connected to so many other places.
If I had the chance to move to London permanently, I think I would want to live in a completely different part of the city than the place where I currently live. I live in West London currently, which is extremely posh and a nice area of town. I think I would like to live in North or East London if I lived in London permanently. I think there is value in living in a completely different place even within a city that I have grown familiar with. I have friends who live in North London and can access the younger parts of the city with different things to offer than where I am studying right now, in West London.
In terms of careers, I would want to work on affordable housing within the city and figure out the international perspective on how to approach the housing crisis. There are a lot of opportunities within the global city of London that would allow me to combine social justice and urban planning, which is my major. I think London provides a great landscape to jump into the important work of fixing societal issues and that is what I would want to follow career-wise if I lived in London.
I think the most beneficial part of living in a city like London is the connectivity to global culture within a young city that has a lot to offer to a person who just graduated college. There are a lot of opportunities around the city that allow for making connections professionally and personally.
