Everything you missed…

Hello Everyone!

My name is Birizibe. If you’ve read my posts on the Honor’s Blog before, then welcome back! I’m happy that you’re here again. If you haven’t, then welcome! I will be posting a few of these throughout the semester, and I hope you stick around.

It’s been a while since I did one of these. Before I started writing this one, I actually went to the posts I wrote a year ago to reread them. I love writing down different phases in my life (I always wish I got into journaling more). At that time, I remember dreading having to do them. Now, though, I appreciate having done them and being able to look back to that time in my journey working for The College Xoice. And I guess that time in my life, in general. I’m excited to once again be writing about my journey at The College Xoice.

Just as a brief background, I’m a Computer Science & Political Science dual-degree with a minor in Africana Studies. I’m involved in a host of other things on campus – I’m in the Honor’s College, I’m an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant, the president of The Minority Association in Computing, and I’m on the SGB Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee. When I first wrote one of these, I was a junior. I thought I wanted to be a software engineer, but I wasn’t sure. Although I had been hired as the Project Management Intern for The College Xoice, I was hoping to be able to use that position to learn more about my professional goals. With the benefit of hindsight, I’m so happy I did that.

This is my third semester working with The College Xoice. In fact, I forgot to mention, but when I was writing these posts a year ago – the name was The College Decisionator. This goes to show how much things have changed since I first started working with them. At the end of Fall semester 2021, they asked me to work with them again for Spring 2022. Then again for Fall 2022. So here we are. I’ve been involved in marketing, testing, product-development, feedback & development cycles, dealing with sponsors and building business relationships, social-media campaigns (kinda), video production, reaching out to high schools and high-schoolers, even working with Jeff (my boss)’s social media famous sons.

It’s been a roller-coaster, and throughout all the learning that became my job at The College Xoice – I realized I was interested in Product Management. And I’m so grateful to the internship for giving me the opportunity to learn so much about myself, my goals, and what I hope will be my career trajectory.

So, a year later, that’s where I am. 2 semesters from graduating, looking for roles in Product Management, excited for what this semester will bring. And I’m excited to share with you guys as well. I’ll talk to you soon.

Take Care,

Birizibe
