One Month with The Sentencing Project

Today marks one month of working for The Sentencing Project and it has been an incredible experience so far. I have learned so much in my short time here and living in Washington D.C. has been nothing short of amazing. I am proud to be able to work on the projects that I am included in, and my office has been so welcoming to me. Each day at the office is different which makes the work that much more interesting. While at work I assist with TSP publications, data sets, newsletters and so much more. Working for a research and advocacy organization is an entirely new experience for me but the work is very rewarding although at times my days are filled with only data and spreadsheets! I have learned that in this industry you must be patient and very driven because some of the research can be daunting. During my short time with The Sentencing Project so far, I have learned that you must be compassionate and willing to learn and partake in new experiences that you may not have considered before. I am looking forward to my visit to the DC Central Detention facility with The Frederick Douglass Project for Justice in July! Without TSP I would not have had the opportunity to collaborate with The Douglass Project and for that I am very grateful.

My favorite place I have visited so far was the Library of Congress. You can spend hours in the building getting lost in the truly amazing exhibits and rooms.

I have made so many incredible memories in just one month with TSP. While in Washington D.C. I have had the privilege to visit some amazing sites and truly experience what it is like to live in this city. I ventured to Capitol Hill, explored Georgetown, and spent hours at The Library of Congress and the National Museum of African American History and Culture. I am forever grateful for this opportunity, and I am so excited for the rest of my time here! In the next few weeks, I will continue to work on the TSP publications and data sets in my office and I am also looking forward to many office events that are coming up. My office is heading to the Nationals v. Pirates baseball game on June 29th and I will of course be cheering on my home team! I am also very excited about an upcoming trip to the theater with my coworkers in July!

While working in Washington I have had the unforgettable opportunity to live on Georgetown University’s campus.
