Hello! My name is Jahnavi Kotapati, and I am a rising junior at the University of Pittsburgh majoring in Public Health and Economics on the pre-medical track. I hope to become a doctor one day, and I have always been interested in understanding how healthcare can look different across communities and around the world.
Studying abroad was always something I wanted to do, but I knew that following a pre-medical path would make it a little more challenging. With balancing classes and extracurriculars, I was not sure if I would find the right opportunity at the right time. When I discovered the summer internship program in Portugal, I was so excited because it felt like the perfect chance to step outside of my comfort zone while continuing to explore my interests in healthcare. Having two months to live and work in a new country will allow me to live life as a local.
This will be my first time visiting Europe, and I cannot wait to experience Portugal for myself. I have always loved learning about different cultures and histories, so I am excited to explore Lisbon and discover the traditions that make up the country I am also looking forward to experiencing the excitement surrounding soccer during the World Cup and seeing how such an important part of Portuguese culture brings people together. Along with exploring the country, I am excited to continue my research while abroad by working with my professor on artificial intelligence in healthcare.
Overall, I am beyond excited for this opportunity to call Lisboa home for the summer. I cannot wait to explore a new country and make some great memories! See you on my next post!
