Greetings from 37F! My name is Melissa and I am soon to be in Hong Kong- currently crafting this blog from the plane before take off. A little about me: I am a 3rd year neuroscience student, but not for long! When I return from this program, I will officially graduate and then hit the ground running in the fall, starting my Master’s in Bioengineering with a focus in neural engineering here at Swanson. For the next two months I will be working on a research project about the applications of AI in medicine and patient simulation.
Enough about me though, what is your favorite airplane take off song? Currently, I am embracing my inner Jess Glynne in the song “Rather Be” by Clean Bandit. “We are 1000 miles from comfort. We have traveled land and sea.” Imagine yourself in my shoes, traveling solo thousands of miles from home. As someone who has never done just that, I am a little anxious at the thought. For me, familiarity is comforting, and there’s an undeniable uncertainty that comes with traveling to a foreign place. But soon, Hong Kong will be my new home for 2 months. I find peace and comfort knowing that by the end of this trip, I will no longer face that same fear of uncertainty. I can’t wait to familiarize myself with a new culture and new experiences.
