As this program comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on how much my perspective has changed since the beginning. What started as a structured academic project evolved into a much deeper experience centered on adaptability, communication, and relationships. While I initially focused on what I would produce-deliverables, presentations, and training materials, I now understand that the most valuable outcomes were the lessons I gained throughout the process.
One of the biggest takeaways from this experience is the importance of adaptability. In the classroom, projects often follow a clear plan, but in a real-world setting, things change. Our group experienced this firsthand when the focus of our project shifted, requiring us to adjust our approach and rethink our deliverables. Learning how to respond to these changes, rather than resist them, is something I will carry forward into my academic and professional career.
Another key lesson was the importance of communication and relationships. This experience showed me that success is not just about having the right knowledge, but about being able to work effectively with others. The relationship between our group and Nature Seekers played a huge role in shaping our project. Their feedback helped us improve, and our willingness to adapt strengthened that partnership. It also highlighted the importance of maintaining consistent communication to avoid misalignment.
Outside of the classroom, one of the most impactful aspects of this experience was the sense of community. The people we interacted with were welcoming, open, and collaborative, which made it easier to connect and learn from them. These connections were not forced—they developed naturally through conversations, shared experiences, and mutual respect. It reinforced the idea that meaningful work is built on strong relationships.
This experience has also influenced how I think about my future. It has given me a clearer understanding of the type of work I am interested in—work that is collaborative, impactful, and grounded in real-world application. I can see myself pursuing opportunities that involve working with organizations, solving problems, and creating solutions that have a direct impact on people and communities.
Throughout this experience, I was supported by my teammates, professors, and the staff at Nature Seekers. Their guidance, feedback, and willingness to collaborate made a significant difference in both the success of the project and my personal growth. Having that support system made it easier to navigate challenges and stay focused on the overall goal.
For future Frederick Honors College students considering this program, my biggest piece of advice would be to stay flexible and open-minded. Things may not go exactly as planned, but that is where the most valuable learning happens. I would also recommend prioritizing communication early and often, and focusing on engagement rather than perfection. Finally, take the time to fully experience the culture and connect with the people around you—those moments will be just as impactful as the academic work.
Looking back, some of my favorite memories include working closely with my team, engaging with Nature Seekers staff, and experiencing a new culture in a way that felt both new and familiar at the same time. These moments made the experience meaningful beyond just the project itself.
In the end, this program has changed how I approach challenges, how I work with others, and how I think about applying what I’ve learned. It reinforced that growth comes from stepping into unfamiliar situations and being willing to adapt. As I move forward, I will carry these lessons with me, using them to approach future opportunities with a more thoughtful, flexible, and collaborative mindset.
