Bienvenidos a España!

Hi Everyone! My name is Jocelyn Wolf and I am a rising Junior studying Neuroscience on the Pre-Physical Therapy track. I am also pursuing a minor in Hispanic Language and Culture to assist me in my language learning for use in my future career. This will be my third time in Spain and I am excited to start a new and different experience this May in Málaga, Spain!

While I have been in Spain for a few days now, I wanted to share a little bit about how I felt embarking on this journey. Previously, I have travelled with my high school to Spain, Madrid specifically, and I felt that I learned a lot about the life of a typical high schooler in Madrid through this exchange program. However, while in high school I was traveling with a group from the United States I hope that in this experience I will be able to meet, learn from, and travel with people from around the world. I hope to greatly push myself in independent travel and become more comfortable with the uncomfortable, while not being surrounded by a group of people very similar to me. Since I don’t know anyone going to Málaga and this program beforehand, I am looking forward to all the new experiences and connections I will have. I am really excited to push myself in interacting with locals in Malaga to practice my language skills. This is what will help me the most professionally. I feel that I have skills to express myself in Spanish, however, talking casually with friends, teachers, and my host mom here will be the most important part of learning how to use Spanish in my everyday life.

I wanted to share a few photos from my first few days here. What is so breathtaking is the duality of the beach and the mountains of Málaga. The southern region of Andalusia is beautiful and has so much natural beauty. I have already spent days at the beach in addition to exploring the city and all it has to offer. I cannot wait to explore the rest of this city, and this region, and take in all that it has to offer.

So far I have been able to explore both the mountains and the sea. Both have been incredible experiences where I have met people from all around the world. I am so grateful for the opportunity to explore the beauty of Spain through these adventures. The first few images are from the “Centro” of Málaga. There is lots of shopping, restaurants, and a ton of history as well. In Plaza de la Merced, there is a statue of Pablo Picasso, as he was born here in Málaga. While I have not visited the Picasso museum yet, I will be sure to share photos from there! The pictures of the mountains are from the Caminito del Rey or “The King’s Little Walk”. It was a journey through the side of a mountain and what are the restored platforms of an electrical plan. It was truly an unforgettable experience! And lastly, a view from the sailboat just off the coast. It was a blast being able to test out my rusty sailing skills. I hope you have enjoyed these photos and I can’t wait to share more!

Adios!
