WFRing in India!

We’re just short of three weeks through our time in India, and it’s been an incredible experience so far! We’re a couple of days into the WFR program, and I’m learning the ins and outs of first responder care in the wilderness. This program has a lot of other students, in the same majors and tracks as me, so it’s been great to be able to get to know them and work with them! A typical day for us is classes from 8:30 to 3:30 where we alternate between lectures and running scenarios that we could see in the outdoors. After classes, we’re free to roam around, whether it’s going into town or going on surrounding hikes through the Himalaya. Getting to go out and explore has been one of my favorite opportunities, and I’ve definitely been taking advantage of that!

Life moves pretty fast, as my days are filled with classes and exploring. The environment and community that we interact with here are a lot different than what we experience in Pittsburgh and at home. We’re up in the mountains, so the ways of getting around are definitely different. Towns look a lot different too, and it’s super interesting to see what the norm here is. We’ve been able to eat at local restaurants and look at local architecture and see how the people here live. It’s been an incredibly immersive experience so far, and I have loved every minute of it.

I’m super excited to continue the WFR class and learn more about first aid in the outdoors. The hands on experience we get from the scenarios is incredibly beneficial, and it’s a lot of thinking outside the box when it comes to what to do! I’ll see you at the end of my trip!
