Hi! My name is Jason Vo and I am currently a rising junior at the University of Pittsburgh. I am a double major in Computer Science and Data science. Coming into the University of Pittsburgh, I was originally planning on studying to become a Computer Engineer, but I switched to the Computing School after my freshman year. I wanted to focus more on software and programming so I declared my major in Computer Science. Other than academics, I love to be active outside whether it’s playing sports with friends, going on a hike, or working out. Some other extracurriculars I am involved in are the Vietnamese Student Association (Business Manager) and and being an active member in Kappa Theta Pi. What interests me most about the SHURE-Grid program is learning more about how systems are designed and what measures are put into place during the design process to ensure everything is protected. As an aspiring software engineer, keeping systems and codebases secure is very important, so I wish for this program to give me more insight on how this is achieved. Below is a picture of me!
So far in this program, our team selected to research challenge B, which is trade-offs in cyber-informed engineering. This challenge deals with how engineers design their systems while considering the necessary trade-offs like cost, time, and storage. These issues are integral to ensuring the protection of systems as engineers need to ensure what their systems can be protected from while also considering what needs to be optimized from a systems standpoint, whether it be cost, time, etc. Learning more about what engineers focus on while also keeping their systems protected from adversaries is critical when designing and researching critical systems.
